Khalid Khannouchi

Khalid Khannouchi, a retired long-distance runner, is renowned for previously holding the world record for the marathon and the road world best for the 20 km distance. He is one of the few athletes who have broken the marathon world record multiple times. After a disagreement with the Moroccan athletics federation, Khannouchi relocated to Brooklyn, New York. He achieved victory in the 1997 Chicago Marathon, setting a new course record that had stood for 12 years. In 2002, he established the American marathon record before retiring in 2012 due to persistent foot injuries.
