Andy Ruiz Jr is a Mexican-American professional boxer who became the first fighter of the Mexican descent to become a unified heavyweight champion after he defeated Anthony Joshua in 2019. In a shocking victory, that was termed as one of the biggest upsets in the history of boxing, he defeated Anthony Joshua to bag the WBA Super (World Boxing Association Super World Heavy Title), IBF (International Boxing Federation World Heavy Title), WBO (World Boxing Organisation World Heavy Title) and IBO (International Boxing Organization World Heavy Title) titles. He retained the titles for around six months before Joshua reclaimed them via a 12-round unanimous decision in a December rematch. In his professional boxing career, he has till now played 36 matches and won 34 of them. Earlier, in 2013, he defeated Joe Hanks to bag his first WBO Inter-Continental heavyweight title and defended it successfully thrice. He also successfully defended his WBC-NABF heavyweight title five times. He is counted amongst the ten best current heavyweight boxers in the world. Earlier, he had a successful amateur career accumulating a 105-5 record and winning several national championships. He also represented Mexico in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games qualification tournament but failed to make it any further.
