Description:
(German Catholic Nun Remembered for Her Mystical Visions) Anne Catherine Emmerich was an Augustinian canoness known for her mystical experiences and visions relating to the life and passion of Jesus Christ. She claimed to receive these revelations from the Blessed Virgin Mary during religious ecstasy. Despite spending much of her life bedridden, Emmerich received visits from prominent individuals. The poet Clemens Brentano conducted extensive interviews with her and wrote books based on her visions, although their authenticity has been debated. Pope John Paul II beatified Emmerich in 2004, with the Vatican emphasizing her personal piety over her religious writings.
