Bjørn Helland-Hansen

Bjørn Helland-Hansen was a Norwegian pioneer in modern oceanography, renowned for his research on weather patterns in the northern Atlantic Ocean and atmosphere. He studied medicine and physics at the University of Christiania and later became a Professor of oceanography at the Bergen Museum. In 1910, he created the "Helland-Hansen Photometer" and was honored with the Alexander Agassiz Medal in 1933. From 1946 to 1948, he held the position of President of the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics and mentored accomplished oceanographer Alexander Kuchin.
