His pioneering work on crystal structure and his influential publication, Traité de Minéralogie, solidified his reputation in these fields. Haüy's expertise led to his honorary appointment as a canon of Notre Dame, where he was known as the Abbé Haüy. He also played a part in the establishment of the metric system during the French Revolution.
