(Meteorologist) Léon Philippe Teisserenc de Bort, a French meteorologist, made significant contributions to the field of aerology. Alongside Richard Assmann, he co-discovered the stratosphere in 1902. Teisserenc de Bort pioneered the use of unmanned instrumented balloons to gather atmospheric data.
