Robert "Bob" Melancton Metcalfe is a prominent American engineer and entrepreneur known for his significant contributions to the internet's development. He is credited as the co-inventor of Ethernet and a co-founder of 3Com. Metcalfe is also the creator of Metcalfe's law, a principle that describes the impact of telecommunications networks. Despite some inaccurate predictions, he has been honored with prestigious awards such as the IEEE Medal of Honor and the National Medal of Technology and Innovation. Metcalfe is a recipient of the Turing Award and has held the position of professor of innovation and entrepreneurship at the University of Texas at Austin.
