She was among the first women astronauts selected in NASA's Astronaut Group 8. Fisher made significant contributions to various NASA programs, such as the Space Shuttle, International Space Station, and Orion spacecraft. She participated in space missions aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery, where she operated the Canadarm to retrieve satellites. Fisher took a break from her career to focus on raising her family before returning to NASA to assist with ISS training and the development of the Orion spacecraft display. She retired from NASA in 2017.
