James Scott Bowerbank

James Scott Bowerbank, a British naturalist and paleontologist, made significant contributions to the study of fossils and sponges. Bowerbank was a co-founder of The London Clay Club and published works on fossil fruits and seeds. He advocated for the establishment of the Palaeontographical Society and supported the study of natural science through his museum and mentorship of students. His notable work on British sponges led to his retirement in St Leonards-on-Sea.
