Emmanuelle Marie Charpentier is a distinguished French professor and researcher specializing in microbiology, genetics, and biochemistry. She has been a director at the Max Planck Institute for Infection Biology in Berlin since 2015 and established the Max Planck Unit for the Science of Pathogens in 2018. Charpentier, along with American biochemist Jennifer Doudna, received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2020 for their pioneering work on genome editing with CRISPR technology.
