Description:
(Polish Physician and Zionist Activist, Who Was a Forerunner of ‘Theodor Herzl’ and Other Major Political Zionists) Leon Pinsker was a physician and Zionist activist who initially supported the assimilation of Jews in the Russian Empire. However, he became disillusioned after witnessing the Odessa Pogroms and founded the Zionist organization Hibbat Zion in 1881. Despite facing political disagreements and Ottoman restrictions on Jewish emigration, Pinsker was unable to resettle and passed away in Odessa in 1891. His remains were later brought to Jerusalem in 1934.
