(American Ophthalmologist and Humanitarian) Patricia Era Bath was a pioneering American ophthalmologist who achieved significant milestones in her field. She was the first woman to be a member of the Jules Stein Eye Institute and to lead a post-graduate training program in ophthalmology. Additionally, she was the first African-American to serve as a resident in ophthalmology at New York University and the first African-American woman surgeon on staff at the UCLA Medical Center. Bath held five patents and founded the American Institute for the Prevention of Blindness.
