(19th and 21st Surgeon General of the United States) Vivek Hallegere Murthy is a British-American physician and vice admiral in the United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps. He has served as the 19th and 21st surgeon general of the United States under Presidents Obama, Trump, and Biden. Murthy is the first surgeon general of Indian descent and was the youngest active duty flag officer in federal uniformed service during his first term. He co-chaired President-elect Biden's COVID-19 Advisory Board and was later confirmed by the Senate for a second term as U.S. surgeon general. Biden also nominated him to be the U.S. representative on the World Health Organization's executive board.
