Charlie Haden was a highly influential American jazz double bass player, bandleader, composer, and educator who revolutionized the harmonic concept of bass playing in jazz. Over a career spanning more than fifty years, he played a significant role in groundbreaking ensembles such as the Ornette Coleman Quartet and Keith Jarrett's groups. Haden also founded his own bands, including the Liberation Music Orchestra and Quartet West. He was acclaimed for his innovative harmonies and virtuosity in bringing out the unique sound of the double bass with simplicity and gravity.
