Gareth Gates is an English singer-songwriter, actor, and accomplished musical theatre performer who emerged as the runner-up in the first series of Pop Idol in 2002. Since then, he has sold over 3.5 million records in the UK. Transitioning to musical theatre in 2009, Gates has taken on lead roles in productions such as Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Les Misérables, Loserville, Legally Blonde, and Boogie Nights the Musical. Additionally, he was a member of the pop group 5th Story for The Big Reunion project.
