(Tenor Saxophonist) Johnny Griffin, nicknamed "the Little Giant," was a significant American jazz tenor saxophonist known for his influence in the hard bop genre. Over the course of his career spanning several decades, Griffin collaborated with renowned musicians like Thelonious Monk and Art Blakey, and notably partnered with fellow tenor saxophonist Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis. He later relocated to Europe and became a member of the Kenny Clarke/Francy Boland Big Band. Griffin was honored with an Honorary Doctorate of Music from Berklee College of Music for his musical contributions.
