Buddy Rich, a renowned American jazz drummer, songwriter, conductor, and bandleader, was celebrated for his exceptional technique, power, and speed. Commencing his jazz journey in 1937, he collaborated with numerous distinguished artists. Following his service in the U.S. Marines from 1942-1944, Rich went on to lead the Buddy Rich Orchestra and achieve enduring acclaim with the Buddy Rich Big Band. Despite his considerable commercial achievements, he did not read sheet music, demonstrating his extraordinary memory and keen listening abilities by performing complex drum compositions.
