Description:
(Composer) Harry Partch was an American composer known for his use of scales with unequal intervals in just intonation. He also created unique musical instruments to perform his compositions. His music was influenced by ancient Greek theater and Japanese Noh and kabuki traditions. Partch rejected the European concert tradition and pursued self-study after leaving the University of Southern California's School of Music. Throughout his career, he relied on grants and record sales while moving frequently and holding various jobs.
