Isaac Stern

Isaac Stern is considered as one of the greatest violinists of the 20th century. This Polish-born musician received several Grammy award during his music career. He developed special bonding with Israel developed due to his several performances in the country. He performed there even during the Persian Gulf War. He formed piano trio with pianist Eugene Istomin and cellist Leonard Rose and recorded the complete trios of Beethoven and Brahms. Isaac performed for American soldiers during the World War II and was the first American violinist to perform in concerts in the Soviet Union after the war. For his contribution towards American culture, he received the Kennedy Centre Honours Award. In 1979, Stern visited China and collaborated with the China Central Symphony Society (now China National Symphony) under the direction of conductor Li Delun. The visit of Stern was filmed into Oscar-wining documentary 'From Mao to Mozart: Isaac Stern in China'.
