Keith Chegwin was an English actor, television presenter, radio jockey, singer and author, best remembered for his Saturday morning shows like ‘Cheggers Plays Pop’, ‘Multi-Coloured Swap Shop’ and ‘Saturday Superstore’. In a career spanning five decades, he also acted in films like Roman Polanski’s ‘Macbeth’ and featured in television commercials for ‘Pepsi’ and ‘Cadbury’. He pursued many alternative careers throughout his working life - he presented his own Internet TV show in the early days of the Internet, wrote jingles for the radio, performed on stage as a pantomime dame, released hit pop songs, and also made headlines by hosting a nudist game show wearing nothing but a hat! Having been discovered as a talented young boy, he built an outstanding career making the best use of his youthful energy, an impromptu style of presenting programmes, and became a Saturday-morning staple of children’s television. He battled alcoholism for nearly two decades of his life, but sobered up soon enough to get his career and personal life back on track. He passed away after a prolonged fight with a progressive lung condition.
