She began her journalism career in 1974 at the New York Post and subsequently held various positions at The New York Times from 1977 to 1994. Quindlen won the Pulitzer Prize for Commentary in 1992 for her column "Public and Private" in The New York Times. Furthermore, her semi-autobiographical novel "One True Thing" was made into a successful film in 1998, starring Meryl Streep and Renée Zellweger.
