Will Eisner, an influential American cartoonist, writer, and entrepreneur, is best known for creating the innovative series The Spirit, which ran from 1940 to 1952. In 1978, he popularized the term "graphic novel" with the publication of A Contract with God. Eisner also made important contributions to formal comics studies through his book Comics and Sequential Art in 1985. His legacy lives on through the prestigious Eisner Award and his induction into the Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame.
