(Television Personality, Journalist) Helen Thomas was a prominent American reporter and author renowned for her extensive and illustrious career reporting on the White House. She spent 57 years working for United Press and United Press International, ultimately rising to the position of White House bureau manager. Thomas also contributed to Hearst Newspapers, concentrating on national affairs and White House coverage. She made history as the first female officer of the National Press Club, the first female member and president of the White House Correspondents' Association, and the first female member of the Gridiron Club. Throughout her career, Thomas authored six books.
