(Journalist) Gwen Ifill was a pioneering American journalist, television newscaster, and author who achieved significant milestones in the media industry. As the first African-American woman to host a nationally televised U.S. public affairs program with Washington Week in Review, she left an indelible mark. Ifill held prominent roles as the moderator and managing editor of Washington Week, and as co-anchor and co-managing editor of the PBS NewsHour. She was highly regarded as a political analyst and gained acclaim for her best-selling book, The Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama. Furthermore, Ifill moderated the vice-presidential debates in 2004 and 2008, showcasing her expertise in political journalism.
