Pervez Musharraf

Description: (10th President of Pakistan Who Served from 2001 to 2008)

Pervez Musharraf was one of the most controversial political figures in Pakistan. He came to power through a coup, overthrowing the elected Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. Known as a hard taskmaster, his rule often received mixed reviews from the public. He revived the country’s economy, reduced foreign debt, and significantly lowered poverty levels, putting the country on the path to prosperity and growth. He also granted freedom to the broadcast and digital media, which experienced immense growth and evolution during his rule. However, these policies were not well received by fundamentalists, who criticized his leadership. Furthermore, his alleged involvement in the Kargil War, the Lal Masjid attack, and the assassination of former PPP leader Benazir Bhutto attracted significant criticism and disapproval. Interestingly, this four-star general and politician rose to the top position in the country through his military career. Starting as a second lieutenant, he climbed the ranks through hard work and perseverance. In 1998, he was appointed Chief of Army Staff. The following year, through a military coup d'état, he positioned himself as the President of Pakistan.
