(Judge) Ariranga Govindasamy Pillay had a distinguished legal career in Mauritius, serving as the Chief Justice from 1996 to 2007. He studied Economics and Political Science at the London School of Economics and Political Science before earning a law degree from Merton College, Oxford. He practiced law and held various positions within the Attorney General's Office and Ministry of Justice in Mauritius. Pillay also served as a Puisne Judge and Acting Senior Puisne Judge before becoming Chief Justice.
