K. G. Balakrishnan

Konakuppakatil Gopinathan Balakrishnan is an Indian judge who has held several significant positions in the Indian judicial system. He served as the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of India and later as the chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission of India. Balakrishnan was the first judge from Kerala to hold the position of Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, serving for over three years. Additionally, he also acted as the governor of Gujarat while being the Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court. In recognition of his contributions, Balakrishnan was awarded an honorary doctorate by Cochin University of Science and Technology in 2010.
