Michael Anthony Bilandic, a prominent American Democratic politician and attorney, served as the 49th mayor of Chicago from 1976 to 1979, following Richard J. Daley. Before becoming mayor, Bilandic practiced law in Chicago after completing his education at DePaul University College of Law. He also represented the eleventh ward as an alderman in the Chicago City Council. Bilandic later served as the chief justice of the Illinois Supreme Court from 1994 to 1997.
