(Judge) Bushrod Washington was an American attorney and politician who served as Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States from 1798 to 1829. He had a close alliance with Chief Justice John Marshall during his time on the Court. Washington was also a co-founder and president of the American Colonization Society, which promoted the emigration of freed slaves to Africa. He inherited George Washington's papers and Mount Vernon, and later published a biography of the first president with Marshall's help.
