Jeff Sessions

Description: (Attorney General of the United States)

Jeff Sessions is an American politician and lawyer currently serving as the 84th Attorney General of the United States. He was elected as a Republican Senator from Alabama in 1997 and subsequently won three more re-elections to serve in the post for two decades before resigning to take his current role. Throughout his congressional service, which has been marked by accusations of racism, he pursued conservative ideals like maintaining a strong military and law enforcement and cracking down on illegal immigration. He also opposed many Democratic initiatives, including the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, which advocated equitable wages for women, and the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act. As the Attorney General, he urged federal prosecutors to seek the maximum criminal charges possible, including capital punishment for major drug dealers. He not only warned sanctuary cities of cutting federal funding if they did not comply with federal immigration policy, but also supported President Donald Trump's widely criticized policy of separating little children from parents at the border. He is one of the government officials accused of colluding with Russia during the 2016 U.S. presidential election, and is responsible for firing FBI Director James Comey, who was leading the investigations.
