He studied at the University of Montpellier and succeeded Joseph Pitton de Tournefort at the Jardin du Roi. Jussieu edited important botanical works by Tournefort and Barrelier and practiced medicine, with a special focus on caring for the less fortunate. His teachings were eventually published posthumously in a work titled "Traité des vertus des plantes."
