He held titles of Pasha and Major-General in the Ottoman Empire and Egypt, and served as Governor-General of the Equatorial Nile Basin. His notable accomplishments include being the first European to visit Lake Albert, exploring the Nile and central Africa, and leading big game hunting expeditions across continents. Baker was also a prolific author and had significant associations with prominent figures such as King Edward VII, Henry Morton Stanley, and Charles George Gordon.
