Carol S. Dweck

Description: (Best Known for Her Work on The 'Mindset' of Psychological Traits)

Carol S. Dweck is a professor of psychology at 'Stanford University.' She is known for her research work on the “mindset” psychological trait. A PhD from 'Yale University,' she was a child prodigy and scored high on intelligence quotient (IQ) tests. Dweck has previously taught at 'Columbia University,' 'Harvard University,' and the 'University of Illinois.' Most of her studies have been done at 'Stanford.' Apart from studying “mindset,” she conducts research studies on applied social psychology, attitudes and beliefs, motivation, goal setting, person perception, personality, individual differences, self and identity, and social cognition. Dweck strives to connect developmental psychology, social psychology, and personality psychology with the self-conceptions that generally structure one’s behavior. She also studies the significance of motivation and self-regulation in interpersonal processes. Dweck’s research on “mindsets” has been a key element in studying general beliefs about intelligence-influenced achievement and motivation. Dweck is the author of the book 'Mindset: The New Psychology of Success’ and has published over 100 articles for psychologists and the public. She has also received several honors and awards for her prolific research work to date. She has been instrumental in branding self-conception as ''mindset.'' Dweck is an elected member of the 'American Academy of Arts and Science.' Dweck’s theories of “mindset” have received a fair share of criticism, too. Many researchers have rejected her findings, citing the issue of validity.
