(Canadian Social-Democratic Politician and Political Scientist) John Edward Broadbent was a well-known Canadian social-democratic politician and political scientist. He led the New Democratic Party (NDP) for 14 years, during which time the party experienced substantial growth in parliamentary representation. In addition to his leadership in the NDP, Broadbent also held significant roles in various international organizations. In 2004, he made a return to politics by representing Ottawa Centre and later went on to chair the Broadbent Institute, a prominent policy think tank.
