Description: (Italian Jesuit, Missionary, Explorer, Mathematician and Astronomer)
Eusebio Francisco Kino, SJ, was an Italian Jesuit renowned for his diverse roles as a missionary, geographer, explorer, cartographer, mathematician, and astronomer. He dedicated the last 24 years of his life to the Pimería Alta region, encompassing modern-day Sonora, Mexico, and southern Arizona, USA. Father Kino extensively explored the area, collaborated closely with various Native American communities, and established 24 missions and visitas. Notably, he conducted an overland expedition that definitively proved the Baja California Territory was a peninsula, not an island.
