Louise de La Vallière

Louise de La Vallière started as a maid-of-honour at the royal court and soon became the mistress of King Louis XIV of France. She was active in the court's intellectual circles, displaying a strong passion for the arts, literature, and philosophy. After her tenure as the King's mistress, she received a title and lands. Later in life, she pursued a religious path, writing a well-received devotional book and ultimately joining the Carmelite order until her death in 1710.
