Roger Mortimer, 1st Earl of March, was a prominent English nobleman and Marcher Lord who acquired extensive estates in Wales and Ireland through strategic marriages. He served as Lord Lieutenant of Ireland and later led a rebellion against King Edward II, resulting in his imprisonment and subsequent escape to France. With Queen Isabella, he orchestrated Edward II's downfall and took control of England until being overthrown by Edward III. Mortimer was eventually executed for his alleged crimes, including seizing royal power.
