(Consort of the Danish monarch) Prince Henrik of Denmark served in the French Army during the Algerian War and later worked in the diplomatic service. He married Margrethe II of Denmark in 1967 and became her prince consort in 1972. Throughout his time as prince consort, Henrik expressed his disappointment at not being granted the title of king. He was known for his skills as a winemaker, producing his own wine at his estate in France, and was also a published poet. Henrik retired from royal duties in 2016 and passed away in 2018 after a brief illness.
