Edward Seymour, 1st Duke of Somerset, served as Lord Protector of England from 1547 to 1549 during King Edward VI's minority. He gained favor with Henry VIII, becoming Earl of Hertford and eventually Duke of Somerset. Unrest erupted due to his religious measures and economic mismanagement, leading to his removal from power and eventual execution for treason in 1552.
