Barret Oliver is an American photographer and a former child actor, best known for starring in films such as ‘The NeverEnding Story’ and the ‘Cocoon’ film series. Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, Barret became interested in acting as a child, following in the footsteps of his older brother, Kyle, who appeared in a few films in the early 1980s. At the age of 9, Barret made his film debut with a small role in the film ‘Jekyll and Hyde... Together Again’ and then appeared in many small roles. With the first few films of his career, Barret established himself as a talented young actor. This translated to his first acting breakthrough in the 1984 film ‘The NeverEnding Story.’ The film brought him critical appreciation and further attention. This resulted in him earning the role of the robot ‘Daryl’ in the 1985 film ‘D.A.R.Y.L.,’ which brought him further appreciation. He later starred in two ‘Cocoon’ films and then disappeared from the acting scene to focus on his photography career. He immersed himself in photography and practically let go of what could have been a successful film career. Currently, he teaches photography in Los Angeles through classes and workshops.
