He is best known for his roles in the TV series What I Like About You, as well as appearing in three films of the Scary Movie franchise and National Lampoon's Pledge This!. Rex also pursued a music career under the rap persona Dirt Nasty, releasing several solo albums and co-founding the hip-hop group Three Loco. In 2021, he received critical acclaim for his lead role in Sean Baker's drama film Red Rocket, earning the Independent Spirit Award for Best Male Lead.
