Jerry Weintraub was an American producer, actor and a talent manager. Born and raised in New York City, he was born to a gem dealer father. Growing up, Jerry had developed a significant interest in the show business and he later began working as an usher in the theatres. He began his career as a talent manager in the late 1960s. One of his early career breakthroughs as a manager was to work with actor John Denver. Acting as his manager, Jerry helped him a great deal in forging his film and singing career. He later produced a film titled ‘Oh God!’, starring Denver in the lead role. Jerry eventually went on working as a concert promoter and worked with artists such as Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley and Bob Dylan. He also had a thriving career as a film producer. He began in the mid-1970s, with the film titled ‘Nashville’ and went on producing films such as ‘Cruising’, ‘All Night Long’ and ‘Diner’. 1984’s ‘The Karate Kid’ remains one of the most legendary films that he produced. Jerry passed away on July 6, 2015, at the age of 77.
