William Matthew Tilghman Jr. was a prominent figure in the American Old West, known for his roles as a lawman, gunfighter, and politician in Kansas and Oklahoma during the late 19th century. He served as Dodge City city marshal, played a key part in the Kansas County Seat Wars, and later became a Deputy U.S. Marshal in Oklahoma. Tilghman gained recognition for capturing the outlaw Bill Doolin and his gang. Although not as famous as Wyatt Earp and Bat Masterson, Tilghman is a well-known figure of the American Old West and even directed and starred in a film based on his memoirs.
