He served as the costume designer for The Carol Burnett Show throughout its eleven-year duration. Mackie has achieved numerous accolades, including nine Primetime Emmy Awards, a Tony Award, and three Academy Award nominations for Best Costume Design. In April 2023, he was presented with the first Giving Us Life-time Achievement Award by RuPaul during the RuPaul's Drag Race Season 15 finale.
