François Hennebique

Description: (Engineer)
François Hennebique was a French engineer and self-educated builder credited with pioneering the reinforced-concrete construction system in 1892. This innovative method integrated separate elements into a single monolithic structure. Hennebique began his career as a stonemason before transitioning to a builder specializing in church restoration. Initially using concrete to fireproof wrought iron beams, his Béton Armé system later evolved to include steel bars in the bottom face of concrete slabs. His construction system gained rapid success, expanding across Europe with a network of affiliated firms.
