(Architect) William Strickland was a notable architect and civil engineer recognized for his involvement in the Greek Revival movement in the United States. He trained under Benjamin Latrobe and served as a mentor to Thomas Ustick Walter. Additionally, he was the designer of the first ocean breakwater in the Western Hemisphere. His professional achievements led to his election as a member of the American Philosophical Society in 1820.
