René Panhard

René Panhard was a French engineer and pioneer in the automobile industry. He graduated from École Centrale Paris and began his career in a firm producing wood-working machines, where he met Émile Levassor. In 1889, he joined forces with Levassor and Edouard Sarazin to establish the Panhard & Levassor car company. Together, they designed the first Daimler car engine in 1891 and achieved success in various automobile races. Following Levassor's passing in 1897, Panhard carried on developing automobiles with his son. He also served as the mayor of Thiais and received a grand prize in 1904.
