Wilhelm Uhde was a respected figure in the art world, known for championing Cubist painters such as Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque. He ran an art gallery in Paris showcasing works by leading artists and commissioned Picasso for a portrait. Uhde also authored the first monograph on Henri Rousseau and was instrumental in promoting Naive Art by organizing its first Paris exhibition. Despite having his collection seized during World War I, he remained active in the art scene, collaborating with artists and fostering their careers.
