Danny Greene

Description: (American Mobster)

Danny Greene was an infamous Irish American gangster who rose to dominate the criminal underbelly of the city of Cleveland during the 1970s, a period that witnessed intense rivalry between competing gangs fighting for control of the city’s organized crime rackets, often with deadly results. There were so many incidents of bombing by rival gangs intent on murdering each other that Cleveland came to be known as the “bomb capital of America”. A close associate of the notorious mobster, John Nardi, Danny Greene first came to power as the president of the local chapter of International Longshoremen's Association (ILA). He established his own gang, the ‘Celtic Club’ that started competing with the Italian-American mafia for controlling loan-sharking, racketeering, and gambling operations in Cleveland. Danny Green, known in the mobster circles as ‘The Irishman’ was usually in the center of bloodshed and mayhem as the gangs in Cleveland fought among themselves, as well as him, to emerge as victors in the furious race for criminal dominance. Despite such a notorious track record, he was never quite prosecuted seriously, possibly due to his status as an ‘FBI’ informer.
