Belle Gunness

Description: (Serial Killer)

Belle Sorenson Gunness, birth name Brynhild Paulsdatter Størseth, was a Norwegian-American serial killer. A well-built woman with six feet height and over 90 90 kg, Belle immigrated to the US in 1881. A series of deaths and disappearances of people associated with her followed, many of which fetched her insurance money. It is conjectured that she killed both her husbands and their children, including her two daughters, Myrtle and Lucy. She advertised in matrimonial columns of newspapers to allure rich men. Once the suitors arrived at her farmhouse they disappeared mysteriously, never to be found again. This ruthless slayer killed most of her suitors, possibly to collect cash and other valuables they carried before executing them and burying them in her farmhouse. The only exception was George Anderson who managed to escape her clutches. After a victim’s brother Asle Helgelien became suspicious of his disappearance, Belle’s farmhouse suspiciously caught fire in April 1908. Eventually the authorities unearthed remains of several men as also children from the place while Belle disappeared for good. According to reports she killed around 25 to 40 people.
